Production Planner - Valves & Components

Department: Materials Planning
Location: Briggs, TX

ABOUT FIREFLY AEROSPACE

As an end-to-end responsive space company, Firefly Aerospace is on a mission to enable our world to launch, land, and operate in space – anywhere, anytime. Our small- to medium-lift launch vehicles, lunar landers, and orbital vehicles allow us to service the entire lifecycle of government and commercial missions from low Earth orbit to the Moon and beyond. We utilize carbon composite structures, patented propulsion technologies, and common components across our vehicles to iterate quickly, improve reliability, and deliver payloads at a lower cost.

SUMMARY

The Valve and Components Production Planner ensures that key mechanical and fluid systems components, particularly valves and precision hardware, move efficiently through internal and external fabrication, kitting, inspection, and delivery processes to support program schedules and integration needs.

This role is responsible for ensuring successful on-time start, coordinating material and component readiness, and identifying bottlenecks that could impact valve and component availability. The Valve and Components Planner works cross-functionally to support both development and production builds across propulsion, structures, avionics, and integration teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyze historical data, demand trends, and project schedules to forecast material and component requirements for valves, regulators, fittings, and other mechanical fluid system elements.

  • Collaborate with Production Planners, Program Management, and Engineering to align forecasts with integration and test schedules.

  • Develop and manage Material Requirements Plans (MRP) specific to valves and components, ensuring appropriate lead times and accurate readiness signals.

  • Track component readiness from procurement through inspection, kitting, and delivery to production work centers.

  • Coordinate with procurement and suppliers to reduce lead times, mitigate risks, and ensure availability of long-lead and specialty items.

  • Monitor inventory health and drive actions to prevent shortages or excess, especially for hard-to-source or ITAR-sensitive items.

  • Communicate status of valve and component readiness to stakeholders and escalate blockers early.

  • Support engineering and R&D builds by adapting plans to prototype and test needs.

  • Drive continuous improvement through metrics (e.g., schedule adherence, WIP aging, inventory turnover) and process refinement.

QUALITFICATIONS

Required

  • Proficiency with MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Odoo) and tools such as Jira, Confluence, Smartsheet, and Bitbucket.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Planning, Operations, Supply Chain, or a related technical field.

  • 5+ years of experience in planning, scheduling, or production control within manufacturing or aerospace.

  • Demonstrated experience managing the flow of high-precision mechanical or fluid components (e.g., valves, regulators, fittings).

  • Expertise in navigating production constraints and coordinating among supply chain, quality, and engineering.

  • Proficient with data analytics and capable of making data-driven decisions under pressure.

  • Strong time management and organizational skills; able to balance competing priorities.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication with cross-functional teams including technicians, engineers, and leadership.

Desired

  • Experience with SQL, Python, or similar tools for production or inventory data analysis.

  • Familiarity with ITAR compliance and aerospace manufacturing standards (e.g., AS9100).

  • Exposure to test or integration environments requiring kitting and precise component sequencing.

  • APICS/ASCM certification is a plus.

Firefly offers outstanding benefits for our employees, including generous health, dental and vision plans with low plan deductibles, parental leave, educational reimbursement, short term disability, pet Insurance, and flexible PTO options.
