Supervisor, Launch Vehicle Test

SUMMARY

As a Launch Vehicle (LV) Test Technician Supervisor, you will lead a team of Test Technicians responsible for validating Launch Vehicle segments (Components, Valves, Carbon Fiber Structures and even integrated rockets) integrity through acceptance testing. You will work closely with Test Engineering IPT Leads to ensure product testing success across all LV Test Stands. A LV Test Supervisor is a technical expert, leveraging their mechanical and leadership experience to build and operate a dynamic and quality team of test technicians across all phases of the launch vehicles life cycle. This position is located at our Manufacturing and Test site in Briggs, TX but also requires up to 20% travel in support of Launch Operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise and provide direct mentorship and development of technician team members.
  • Work with technicians and engineering to identify process improvements and drive workflows through implementation.
  • Ensure workmanship standards, cleanliness standards and adherence to Firefly and Launch Vehicle team goals and standards
  • Champion technician initial and continued training program ensuring team members are well versed across all technical disciplines. Where necessary develop new training or partner to do such.
  • Own continuous improvement program across all areas of responsibility, leading growth and change from the front.
  • Work with leadership and engineering to ensure all systems are built by appropriate priority and with the highest level of quality.
  • Provide continuous daily support to interdepartmental Firefly Launch Vehicle needs, flexing as necessary to support Launch, Integration and Test.
  • Escalate issues/problems that impact project deliverables.
  • Supervise shop/field activities, including daily schedules, workflow, and all performance management related tasks.
  • Review procedures and make change recommendations when needed.
  • Improve area safety and efficiency through regular auditing and continuous improvement. We mention continuous improvement 7 above
  • Own weekly schedules for production and development and provide weekly and monthly reflections on team performance.

REQUIRED:

  • 8+ years’ experience in leading teams and projects.
  • Previous experience in space field or general aviation
  • Demonstrated mechanical and electrical aptitude.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Meticulous craftsmanship.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend system P&ID’s.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform basic electrical troubleshooting
  • Proficient use of job-related tools and precision measurement instruments.
  • Experience working with Computer systems such as Microsoft Office, Jira, Odoo, Smartsheet, Confluence, NX and Team Center.
  • Positive attitude.
  • Safety oriented mindset.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience applying lean manufacturing principles and efficiency methods.
  • 10+ years’ of experience in discipline and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in building teams and processes from a R&D base to a professional organization.
  • Familiarity with design for manufacturability, lean manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) with Engineering and Production
  • Able to adapt to constantly changing work tasks and fast paced work environment.
  • Excellent concentration and attention to detail with outstanding work efficiency and accuracy.
