SUMMARY
The Network Administrator is responsible for deploying and maintaining the high availability and performance of Firefly’s IT compute, network, and storage infrastructure. This role will require experience in the deployment, administration, and troubleshooting of IT infrastructure supporting critical services for Firefly’s corporate and operations networks. This position will be an in-person role at our Wallops Island launch facility in Virginia.
Responsibilities:
- Deploy, maintain and monitor IT compute, storage, and network infrastructure, to ensure maximum uptime and performance.
- Perform regular patching and system updates across servers, workstations, and network devices in accordance with IT security and compliance standards
- Provide primary on-site IT services for the Wallops Island launch facility, and act as the on-site liaison between Firefly IT and NASA to coordinate technical requirements, compliance, and incident response.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation and reports of IT Infrastructure architecture, procedures, and change control records for Wallops Launch facility.
- Conduct IT audits, compliance checks, and readiness checks of systems critical to test and launch activities to ensure systems meet operational requirements
- Respond rapidly to incidents, performing diagnostics, root cause analysis, and remediation to minimize downtime during mission-critical operations.
- Support and maintain IP-based camera networks used for site surveillance, monitoring, and video coverage during test and launch operations.
- Support and maintain RTS intercom systems and other real-time communications platforms for launch operations.
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot structured cabling systems (fiber and copper), ensuring performance and compliance with aerospace standards.
Requirements:
- 3-5+ years of hands-on experience in network/system administration, preferably in high-availability or aerospace/industrial environments.
- Experience with network monitoring and alerting platforms.
- Experience with deployment and administration of IT infrastructure hardware and software, including network switches and routers, wireless APs, servers and storage.
- Experience with Windows or Linux Server administration and patch management.
- Strong communication skills and collaboration experience with cross functional teams to resolve complex issues.
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to think quickly and resolve mission critical, high-risk issues.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certifications such as CCNA, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of Cisco, Arista, Palo Alto, or equivalent enterprise networking hardware.
- Proficiency with common virtualization hypervisors (VMware, Hyper-V, ProxMox)
- Experience in launch operations, aerospace manufacturing, or government-regulated environments (ITAR, NIST compliance).
- Familiarity with RF communications, telemetry, or hardened networks used in aerospace environments.
- Experience collecting and analyzing packet captures to troubleshoot network connectivity and performance issues.
- Experience with automation and scripting tools.
