ABOUT FIREFLY AEROSPACE

As an end-to-end responsive space company, Firefly Aerospace is on a mission to enable our world to launch, land, and operate in space – anywhere, anytime. Our small- to medium-lift launch vehicles, lunar landers, and orbital vehicles allow us to service the entire lifecycle of government and commercial missions from low Earth orbit to the Moon and beyond. We utilize carbon composite structures, patented propulsion technologies, and common components across our vehicles to iterate quickly, improve reliability, and deliver payloads at a lower cost.

SUMMARY

Firefly is seeking a motivated RTL Verification Engineer to contribute to the verification and validation of FPGA designs for mission-critical space applications. This role emphasizes developing comprehensive verification environments, creating self-checking test benches, and ensuring design correctness through rigorous simulation and coverage analysis. You will work closely with FPGA design engineers to verify RTL implementations for Microchip PolarFire SoCs and other FPGA platforms used in aerospace systems. In this fast-paced, collaborative environment, you will apply industry-standard verification methodologies including UVM and constrained-random testing to ensure robust, space-grade hardware designs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Develop and implement RTL verification environments and self-checking test benches using SystemVerilog and UVM methodologies for FPGA designs.

· Create constrained-random test scenarios, directed tests, and regression test suites to verify RTL designs and IP cores written in VHDL/Verilog/SystemVerilog.

· Perform functional simulation, gate-level simulation, and timing analysis using HDL simulation tools to verify design correctness and coverage goals.

· Develop and track functional coverage, code coverage, and assertion coverage metrics to ensure thorough verification of design specifications.

· Debug RTL design issues using waveform analysis, simulation tools, and coverage reports, collaborating with FPGA designers to resolve defects.

· Integrate verification into continuous integration (CI) pipelines and develop automated test frameworks using Python or scripting languages.

· Create verification documentation including verification plans, test reports, coverage analysis, and requirements traceability matrices.

· Participate in design reviews and provide feedback on testability, verification strategies, and design quality for mission-critical aerospace applications.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

· Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical field.

· Experience in RTL verification, digital design verification, or FPGA verification (internships and academic projects count).

· Solid understanding of SystemVerilog for verification including classes, randomization, coverage, and assertions, with familiarity with UVM or other advanced verification methodologies.

· Knowledge of digital design fundamentals including sequential/combinational logic, state machines, clock domains, and timing concepts, with understanding of verification techniques such as functional coverage, code coverage, and constrained-random testing.

· Experience with HDL simulation tools (ModelSim, Questa, VCS, Xcelium, or similar) and waveform debugging.

· Basic scripting skills in Python and Linux shell scripting for test automation, with strong analytical, debugging, documentation, and communication skills.

Preferred

· Hands-on experience creating UVM test benches and verification components (agents, drivers, monitors, scoreboards).

· Experience with FPGA design flows and tools (Libero SoC, Vivado, Quartus) and knowledge of bus protocols (AXI, Avalon, PCIe).

· Knowledge of version control systems (Git, SVN) and CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI).

Firefly offers outstanding benefits for our employees, including generous health, dental and vision plans with low plan deductibles, parental leave, educational reimbursement, short term disability, and flexible PTO options.
