Flight TIG Welder II

Department: Propulsion Manufacturing
Location: Briggs, TX

ABOUT FIREFLY AEROSPACE

Firefly Aerospace is a space and defense technology company that enables our world to launch, land, and operate in space – anywhere, anytime. As the partner of choice for critical space missions, Firefly is the only commercial company to launch a satellite to orbit with 24-hour notice and the only company to achieve a successful Moon landing. Our launch vehicles, lunar landers, and orbital vehicles provide government and commercial customers with full mission services from low Earth orbit to the Moon and beyond. Headquartered in north Austin, Texas, Firefly is looking for passionate, hardworking innovators to join our team and help fuel our successful trajectory into space.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Flight TIG Welders at Firefly build the propulsion hardware that powers our vehicles to space. As a Level 2 TIG Welder, you will fabricate, assemble, and weld flight-critical fluid systems and launch vehicle components using GTAW processes. You will interpret complex engineering drawings, execute precision fabrication, and deliver welds that meet strict aerospace quality standards. This role partners closely with engineering to refine manufacturing processes while maintaining uncompromising focus on safety, quality, and productivity. Strong mechanical aptitude and clear communication of technical information are essential.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Fabrication

  • Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to plan welding operations
  • Cut, trim, fit, and fabricate metal components to dimension
  • Perform fit-up, alignment, and tack welding of tubing and components prior to final weld
  • Use precision calibrated tools including micrometers, depth gauges, and calipers

Flight Welding

  • Set up and operate GTAW equipment, adjusting parameters to achieve proper penetration and weld quality
  • Fabricate, assemble, and weld various fluid systems and sub-assembly components
  • Successfully pass rigorous weld tests such as AWS D17.1

Inspection & Verification

  • Inspect completed welds and fabricated hardware for conformance to applicable standards and drawings
  • Document work performed, create NCRs for non-conforming hardware, and support redline incorporation as needed
  • Escalate quality, fit, or documentation issues to Manufacturing Engineering or Quality as appropriate

Shop Standards & Safety

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and FOD-controlled work environment
  • Follow established procedures for handling and processing precision aerospace hardware
  • Participate in safety walkthroughs and comply with all chemical and shop safety requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Technical Skills — Required

  • 2 years of hands-on TIG (GTAW) welding experience on tube, pipe, or precision assemblies
  • Demonstrated experience in tube and pipe fabrication including cutting, facing, precision fit-up, and assembly
  • Experience working with aerospace alloys including stainless steel and Inconel
  • Proficiency using precision measurement tools such as calipers, height gauges, and scales to hold tight tolerances
  • Ability to read, interpret, and execute work from engineering drawings
  • Basic computer proficiency including Outlook, Teams, and web-based manufacturing systems

Technical Skills — Preferred

  • 3 to 5+ years of TIG (GTAW) welding experience supporting aerospace, aviation, or high-spec manufacturing environments
  • Experience with borescope weld inspection in both open and restricted access geometries
  • Demonstrated success passing aerospace-level weld qualifications including multi-position certifications (1F, 3F, 2G, 3G, 6G) and radiographic (X-ray) acceptance criteria
  • Welding certification from an accredited program with familiarity with AWS D17.1 standards

Physical & Schedule Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks
  • Frequent bending, lifting, climbing, and working in tight spaces
  • Able to climb ladders and stairs
  • Schedule flexibility required; ability to work nights, weekends, and overtime as needed

BENEFITS

Firefly offers outstanding benefits including generous health, dental, and vision plans with low deductibles, parental leave, educational/relocation reimbursement, short-term disability, and flexible PTO.
