SUMMARY
Firefly Aerospace is seeking an Apprentice (Level 1) to join our Facilities & Infrastructure team at Rocket Ranch in Briggs, TX. This entry-level role provides hands-on training and mentorship while assisting licensed electricians and senior technicians with the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems, cabling, and site infrastructure that support our test stands, spacecraft facilities, and manufacturing operations.
This position is designed for individuals beginning their career in the skilled trades, offering structured development, exposure to aerospace infrastructure projects, and opportunities to grow into journeyman-level responsibilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Electrical Installation & Maintenance:
- Assist with the installation of electrical systems, including conduit, wire pulls, outlets, lighting, panels, and switches.
- Learn to measure, cut, thread, and bend conduit (EMT, PVC, and rigid) using appropriate hand tools and mechanical benders.
- Support preventative maintenance tasks such as checking breakers, outlets, and wiring for wear or hazards.
- Prepare and organize electrical materials, tools, and equipment for daily work.
Infrastructure & Networking Support:
- Pull, run, and terminate CAT5/CAT6 network wiring using proper connectors and tools.
- Install hardware in racks, panels, and cabinets to support network connectivity.
- Assist in constructing infrastructure such as CAT6A panels, cable trays, grounding, and bonding.
- Work closely with the Firefly Network Department to bring new sites online and maintain reliable internet connections across facilities.
- Learn to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and shop drawings.
Safety & Compliance:
- Follow all electrical codes, company procedures, and OSHA safety requirements.
- Participate in lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures under supervision.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized job site.
Learning & Development:
- Gain exposure to reading and interpreting electrical blueprints and wiring diagrams.
- Learn to use electrical testing equipment (multimeters, continuity testers, cable testers, etc.).
- Build foundational skills in both electrical systems and structured cabling practices.
- Document completed tasks and maintain apprentice logs for certification tracking.
- Work under the direction of journeyman electricians and senior technicians while building trade knowledge.
Operational Support:
- Assist with temporary power setup for test operations and facility projects.
- Support routine inspections of electrical and communication systems.
- Work outdoors and indoors in industrial environments, including test stand and shop areas.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Enrollment in (or intent to enroll in) a state-recognized Apprenticeship program.
- 2 years’ experience working as an electrician, fire alarm installer, data installer, running conduit, or in any low-voltage installation job.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to work at heights up to 150’.
- Ability to work on top of ladders.
- Basic knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and construction safety practices.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn.
- Ability to work outdoors in variable conditions.
- Team-oriented mindset with a commitment to safety.
Desired
- Prior trade school, vocational training, or hands-on construction/electrical/cabling experience.
- Familiarity with electrical code basics and wiring methods.
- Exposure to conduit bending, cable pulling, or network wiring.
- Experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or aerospace environment.
- Forklift, scissor lift, or boom lift experience (training can be provided).
