SUMMARY

The GSE Combination Welder position at Firefly Aerospace will be responsible for fabrication and welding of production level “Flight-grade” SS assemblies, custom steel tooling, and steel Ground Support Equipment to prints. In this position, you will be able to work on R&D test site equipment, launch site fabrication & structures, and production line tooling. You will work on a daily basis with vehicle design teams, ground support teams, operations engineers, and engineering designers across Firefly to bring the future of spaceflight to life. This role is located at our rocket production facility in Briggs, TX, north of Cedar Park.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs work according to policy, procedures and specifications
  • Performs welding processes on aluminum and steel structures, assemblies, piping to required tolerances using welding metals and metal alloys, including stick, TIG and MIG techniques (as applicable).
  • Determine layouts and welds parts, assemblies, piping to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Reads complex piping and instrumentation diagrams and shop drawings for the purpose of installation, troubleshooting and repairing of major systems and minor subsystems and components.
  • Performs tube, piping and conduit installation for fluid system fabrication, upgrades and modifications.
  • Utilizes a wide range of mechanical and test tools including wrenches, sockets, torque wrenches, calipers, micrometers, plug & pin gage, while performing work to specifications, to identify problems and to maintain and calibrate equipment to performance standards
  • Safety checks and operates heavy equipment such boom lift and forklift.
  • Performs general housekeeping and continuous improvement of the appearance of the site.
  • Travels to launch sites as required to support the overall program.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 3+ years of relevant welding experience.
  • Experience with MIG, TIG, Stick and Flux Core.
  • Experience with structural and pipe welding.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of heat applications, heat absorbents during welding operations to prevent warpages of parts.
  • Good knowledge of shop practices including layout, drilling, sawing, grinding, etc.
  • Experience in operating forklifts, cranes and other machinery, with lifting and rigging experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical one-lines, logic drawings, technical manuals and P&ID's.
  • Must be able to work overtime hours and weekends as needed.
  • Must be able to lift a min. of 50 lbs. unassisted.
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, crawl, maneuver in tight spaces, and work on elevated structures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant welding experience.
  • Experience working and welding stainless steel cryogenic pipe systems.
  • Adept at troubleshooting and diagnosing problems with mechanical equipment with the ability to apply a resolution in a timely fashion.
