SUMMARY

Firefly has year-round engineering focused internship opportunities for our locations in Texas. Both current undergrads and new graduates are encouraged to apply. Mission Assurance is an interdisciplinary role supporting full life-cycle engineering processes focused on addressing design, production, test, and operations vulnerabilities that threaten mission success. To ensure reliability, Mission Assurance leverages systems engineering, risk management, and quality assurance disciplines to develop robust process and tools that ensure mission success for our customers.

The ideal candidate has an insatiable curiosity for understanding how things work and interact with upstream and downstream elements. You will have the opportunity gain experience developing novel solutions for challenging problems which you will be responsible for completing. These positions require high levels of critical thinking, creativity, flexibility, and collaboration. The ability to ask thoughtful questions, learn quickly, and communicate effectively within a multi-disciplinary group is an absolute must.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Use engineering principles and fundamentals to provide novel solutions for technically challenging problems in the Internship focus area of Mission Assurance
  • Support qualification and certification efforts for flight hardware and software products
  • Interface with engineering teams to identify opportunities to improve quality of data and deliverables for customers
  • Track risks and corrective actions for flight-critical vulnerabilities
  • Employ tools such as Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) to identify risks and appropriate mitigating actions
  • Create and maintain tools and metrics used to gather and visualize data to identify and prioritize opportunities to improve reliability
  • Create and maintain tools to improve standardization, repeatability, and traceability

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Must be currently enrolled in either a BS or MS program (or a recent graduate) at an accredited four-year university or college.
  • Willing to work in a hands-on, constantly evolving environment
  • Detail orientated, managing multiple priorities while maintaining focus towards a common goal

Desired:

Candidates should preferably have a focus in one of the following areas

  • Hands-on project experience operating a system with mechanical, fluid, and/or electrical systems.
  • Experience with risk assessment tools such as Fault Tree Analysis and/or Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA)
  • Hands-on experience investigating, troubleshooting, and resolving interdisciplinary problems
  • Experience with data collection and documentation in a machine-readable format
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as PowerBI and/or Grafana for dashboards and metrics
