ABOUT FIREFLY AEROSPACE

As an end-to-end space transportation company, Firefly Aerospace is on a mission to enable our world to launch, land, and operate in space – anywhere, anytime. Our launch vehicles, lunar landers, and orbital vehicles provide government and commercial customers with full mission services from low Earth orbit to the surface of the Moon and beyond. Headquartered in north Austin, Texas, Firefly is looking for passionate, hardworking innovators to join our team and help fuel our successful trajectory into space.

SUMMARY

Firefly Electrical Engineers in the Interconnect team are responsible for developing the electrical wiring interconnect systems (EWIS) that distribute power and electrical signals within avionics hardware, instrumentation, and payloads. In this role, you will work in small, collaborative groups through all stages of the component and system design, manufacturing, and testing. Additionally, you will take ownership of your projects and collaborate with the team to conduct the design, analysis, manufacturing, testing, and final integration of components on launch vehicles and spacecraft.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and integrate electrical wiring interconnect system (EWIS) designs on launch vehicles and spacecraft.
  • Understand and implement industry guidelines and requirements for development and design of wire harnesses.
  • Generate schematics, wire diagrams, harness 3D CAD routing, 2D assembly drawings, technical documentation, and reports to support flight, qualification, and test lab harness assemblies.
  • Coordinate requirements and interfaces between engineering disciplines, production, and integration.
  • Make development decisions based on technical merit, risk, cost, schedule, and/or quality assurance.
  • Support design reviews by presenting design, analysis, and test results, showing component design and manufacturing is meeting requirements for flight.
  • Partner with engineering and production teams to generate ideas, creative designs, and continuous improvements.
  • Tailor aerospace harnessing standards and guidelines to create internal design standards and requirements for cable assemblies, shielding, integration, and vehicle level implementation.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in electrical engineering with 3+ years of experience in related engineering discipline
  • Familiar with the use of test equipment to verify harness design and assembly.
  • Knowledge of harness design, fabrication, and installation standards such as IPC/WHMA-A-620, NASA-STD-8739.4, and MSFC-SPEC-494.
  • Experience with selection of connectors, backshells, wires, and other harness components.
  • Understanding of electrical grounding requirements and how to implement proper system level grounding via wire harness design.
  • Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work well in a team, be proactive, and execute with minimal guidance.
  • Detail-orientated and able to manage multiple concurrent tasks.

Desired

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in electrical engineering with 3+ years of experience, or Master of Science (MS) with 1+ years of experience.
  • Proven ability to generate end-to-end interconnect schematics, wire diagrams, and harness assembly drawings.
  • Experience with 3D CAD design, 2D drafting, and PLM software such as Siemens NX, Capital, and Teamcenter.
  • Hands on experience with harness assembly and shielding integration.
  • Understanding of basic subsystems of a space-rated vehicle and how avionics interface with each system.
  • Experience working with instrumentation and high-speed digital communication protocols.
  • Hands on experience with integration of electronics and harnessing in airborne vehicles.
  • Knowledge of range safety, flight termination, and tracking system requirements such as RCC 319, RCC 324, and AFSPCMAN 91-710.
