SCADA Controls Engineer

SUMMARY

Firefly Aerospace is seeking a highly motivated SCADA Controls Engineer to join our Facilities Operations team at the Briggs, TX facility. This role involves leading the planning, development, implementation, and maintenance of Firefly’s Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system. The SCADA Controls Engineer will be instrumental in learning, developing, implementing, and managing the SCADA system across all Firefly sites. The role also includes documenting system infrastructure and methods to ensure established and managed workflows. The Engineer will work on improving the SCADA system to maximize business performance.

This position involves close collaboration with various Firefly departments, including Facilities, Ground Support Equipment, Test and Launch, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Quality teams, as well as with internal and external stakeholders and senior leadership to achieve corporate goals and strategic objectives. The role requires excellent organizational, time-management, verbal, and written communication skills, with a keen attention to detail.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise and lead the SCADA implementation on multiple projects, involving various technologies, architectures, and departments.
  • Oversee system installation, integration, site commissioning, troubleshooting, and control testing.
  • Create SCADA documentation, including specifications, architecture, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Support SCADA system users and stakeholders.
  • Ensure thorough testing and validation of SCADA network deployments and installations.
  • Monitor SCADA systems in real-time to ensure stability, security, and performance.
  • Analyze real-time and historical data to identify trends, anomalies, and potential issues. Develop strategies for process optimization based on data insights.
  • Diagnose and resolve SCADA system malfunctions and software bugs. Perform routine maintenance, software updates, and system backups.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of SCADA system configurations, network diagrams, and operational procedures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT professionals, to ensure seamless integration of SCADA systems with other infrastructure components.
  • Ensure SCADA systems adhere to industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols such as NIST, ISA-95, and IEC 62443.
  • Provide training and support to operators and maintenance teams to enhance their understanding of SCADA systems and troubleshooting capabilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years, hands-on experience in SCADA design, testing, programming, and commissioning in Ignition.
  • Knowledge of tags, alarm pipelines, gateway servers, edge line servers, transaction groups, recipe management, UDTs, Ignition templates, and data historization.
  • Experience with relevant SCADA communication protocols, computer interfaces, and media types: MODBUS, DNP3.0, OPC, Fiber, Serial, TCP/IP, Radio, etc.
  • Proficiency with PLC programming and configuration.
  • Passion for building customer-facing products in a diverse team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to provide effective solutions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe, Teams, SharePoint, Visio, and the ability to learn new systems.
  • Flexible, resourceful, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment.

Desired

  • Certification in SCADA or industrial automation is a plus.
  • Aerospace industry experience preferred.
  • Experience with operational excellence tools and methods preferred.
