DoD SkillBridge Program – Quality Assurance Inspector

The DoD SkillBridge program is an opportunity for Service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through specific industry training, apprenticeships, or internships during the last 180 days of service. SkillBridge connects Service members with industry partners in real-world job experiences.

SUMMARY

The Firefly Quality Inspector is responsible for the performing inspection and acceptance of in-process and completed flight, qualification, test, and support hardware and software, and related detailed components.

Firefly’s propulsion build facility is a few feet away from the engine and valve test facilities, and our avionics production teams are co-located with Spacecraft production, allowing quick feedback between build quality and performance. This unique environment lends to an exciting day where we may build an products in the morning, and have them tested in the afternoon, then disassemble it the next morning for evaluation. Our teams are building and learning at a rapid pace and we are eager to see how experienced individuals thrive in this type of environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform inspections on launch vehicle/spacecraft components and sub-assemblies (mechanical, electrical, electro-mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic), focused on launch operations.
  • Develop and execute detailed inspection programs which assure adherence to design, specification, and testing requirements - ensuring that all actions required for product acceptance are conducted accurately and efficiently.
  • Document non-conformances in accordance with prescribed procedures and process as required.
  • Collect, track, and trend production data on first-pass yield and non-conformance issues, performing basic statistical analysis on variable data.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to investigate and resolve non-conformance or quality issues, including development and implementation of robust corrective actions to prevent reoccurrences.
  • Quarantine and process non-conforming product.
  • Maintain tool control and calibration processes within assigned work center - including validation of metrology systems.
  • Participate in technical operations and offer guidance and/or serve as an additional technical resource.
  • Initiate and execute plans to improve product quality and inspection efficiency.
  • Apply 5S workplace organization & follow the Lean initiatives.
  • Support manufacturing compliance to customer and internal specifications to meet contractual and mission requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have a HS diploma and a minimum of 2 or more years of direct experience demonstrated mechanical aptitude, attention to detail
  • Experience with standards and/or equivalent quality, military, or government standards in the Aerospace industry
  • Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and adhere to drawings, specifications, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), or related quality control documentation and standards
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively, both
  • Comfortable working within an evolving process
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey methodologies for assembly and troubleshooting

Desired Qualifications

Two or more years of experience in one or more of the following fields.

  • Engines, turbomachinery, or complex component assembly
  • Troubleshooting/Repairing/Testing of pneumatic and/or cryogenic valves, turbomachinery, fluid systems, actuators, or components.
  • Troubleshooting/Repairing/Testing of Avionics hardware
  • Civilian/Military aircraft engine experience

FIREFLY AEROSPACE DOD SKILLBRIDGE CRITERIA

  • Must be a current Active Duty Servicemember
  • Must be separating from the Military in 3-12 months
  • Must be able to complete a minimum of 8 weeks and up to a maximum of 6 months SkillBridge internship
  • Must be able to complete 40 hours per week
  • Willingness to learn from others on the job
  • Will receive an honorable discharge
  • Has taken any service TAPS/TGPS
  • Has attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months
  • Received Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) written authorization and approval to participate in DoD SkillBridge Program prior to start of internship.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This is a military transitional program that does not provide compensation through Firefly Aerospace. If selected for full-time employment with Firefly Aerospace upon completion of SkillBridge you will be eligible for: base salary rate commensurate with experience.
