Engineering Technician III

SUMMARY
Seeking a highly skilled and motivated Engineering Technician III to join the Material and Processes (M&P) Engineering team here at Firefly. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting our engineering efforts by providing technical assistance and expertise in test development, material testing, and analytical testing for composite, polymer and metallic materials. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on groundbreaking projects in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform hand lamination of composite materials for laboratory specimen preparation, including cutting, kitting, bagging, and curing to precise tolerances.
  • Assist engineers in the test/fixture design, material development, and testing of metallic and non-metallic specimens/components.
  • Conduct hands-on mechanical and analytical testing for both metallic and non-metallic materials.
  • Perform routine maintenance and calibration of the testing and analytical equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results.
  • Collaborate with engineers to analyze test data, identify issues, and propose solutions to improve the testing process.
  • Support prototype and fixture fabrication, including design, CAD, minor machining and fabrication.
  • Follow established procedures and safety protocols to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Document procedures, test results, and equipment specifications to maintain accurate records and facilitate knowledge transfer.
  • Assist in the procurement of materials and supplies necessary for projects, including sourcing, ordering, and inventory management.
  • Provide training and guidance to technicians and interns to foster skill development and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed about advancements in aerospace technology and industry trends to contribute innovative ideas and solutions to ongoing projects.
  • Maintain the lab organized and comply with all health and safety rules in the lab.

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or technical certification in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, material engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience working as a technician in the aerospace industry, preferably in a research and development or M&P environment.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical and analytical testing equipment.
  • Hands-on experience with precision tools and machining equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail with the ability to troubleshoot complex systems.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and data analysis tools is desirable.
  • Understanding of quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001) and testing standards (e.g., ASTM, ISO, BS) is a plus.
